Skum – Prašina – Review by Behind the Veil.com | 8,5/10

If you like your death metal to have melodies and variety, to be brutal and at the same time technical then “Prasina” should be an obvious choice for you!

SKUM is a German based band that can trace its beginnings back in 1997 and yet they only have three full length albums out with “Prasina” being the most recent of which, coming out approximately five years after their sophomore work, “Skumworks II”.

Music-wise SKUM can be considered a death metal band which is pretty accurate and yet it fails to help you understand the depth and all the other elements they have in their music. It definitely is a befitting title and SKUM surely is a death metal outfit, but still there’s much more to their music. So, upon the melodic death metal elements which are the foundation of their music this quartet also adds a great deal of dark melodies, brutal thrash metal, grooves and even some more classic heavy metal oriented themes and tunes. Their riffs are catchy, the lead solos are intricate and intriguing, the tempos have variety and alternate from mid paced to fast and the rhythm section is heavy and concrete like a stone wall. The last thing to complete this puzzle is the vocals that are deep, aggressive, they convey the necessary passion and they sound very imposing. If you like your death metal to have melodies and variety, to be brutal and at the same time technical then “Prasina” should be an obvious choice for you!
